Llyn Conwy

Cymhedrol | Moderate 1 -1 ½ awr/hours

Rwy'n argymell eich bod yn dechrau'r daith gerdded yn Hafod-y-Rhedwydd, hen fwthyn y ceidwaid gêm ar y dde ar ben y llethr fwyaf serth ar y ffordd i Ffestiniog. Mae lle parcio i tua 3 char ger y wal gyferbyn â'r tŷ. Efallai y bydd y rhai caled yn dewis cerdded yr holl ffordd o Gwm. Mae pwyntydd yr Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol ar hyd y wal yn gamarweiniol. Anwybyddwch ef ac ewch i lawr y bryn ychydig lathenni i lwybr ffermwr sy'n arwain i fyny i'r borfa. Mae'r llwybr suddedig ychydig yn arw a gwlyb mewn mannau, ond rydych chi nawr ar y llwybr a nodir ar fap yr Arolwg Ordnans. Mae'r llwybr yn croesi un nant fach, ond pan ddewch chi at un arall, dringwch oddi ar y llwybr i ddilyn y nant ar hyd glan uchel tuag at y ffens ar ben y cae. Mae'n ddrwg gen i na allaf fod yn fwy manwl gywir, bydd yn rhaid i ni weld beth fydd paent melyn yn ei wneud. Unwaith y byddwch chi'n cyrraedd y ffens mae camfa gamu drosodd, ond peidiwch â'i defnyddio. Croeswch y nant ac ewch i fyny'r bryn ar hyd y ffens am tua 100 llath. Fel arfer mae lliain neu bapur wedi'i glymu i'r ffens i ddangos i chi ble dylech chi groesi. Mae'n bwysig dod o hyd i'r fan iawn i leoli llwybr pysgotwyr, a saethwyr grugiar. Mae angen ychydig o ofal i gadw at y llwybr cul, ond mae'n gwella wrth... fynd tros godiad bas gallwch chi weld y llyn yn sydyn. Ewch ymlaen o amgylch y llyn dros un darn gwlyb amlwg i'r tŷ cwch, sydd wedi'i adfeilio'n fawr. Efallai y byddwch yn sylwi nad oes nant fawr yn llifo i'r llyn ac mewn gwirionedd, mae'r rhan fwyaf o'r dŵr yn dod o ffynhonnau oddi tano. Mae stori am y ceidwad gêm yn gwneud iawn am gleientiaid di-hael trwy fynd â nhw i bysgota lle daeth dŵr y ffynnon i'r amlwg mewn mannau oer lle nad oedd pysgod. Mae Llyn Conwy yn cyflenwi dŵr i Benmachno, Cwm, a llawer o'r ardal gyfagos. O'r tŷ cwch, mae'n naid fer i ben Pen-y-Bedw am olygfeydd dros y dyffryn. Mae'n ddoeth cadw at y wal a atgyweiriwyd yn ddiweddar am y rhan fwyaf o'r ffordd i osgoi grug dwfn, er y gallech ddewis dod yn syth i lawr pan fydd disgyrchiant ar eich ochr. Caniatewch hanner awr ar gyfer y daith ychwanegol hon. Mae cylchdaith y llyn, i'r rhai sydd â diddordeb, yn cynnwys i fyny ac i lawr, i mewn ac allan, a rhywfaint o neidio o'r gors, a dylai gymryd awr a mwy. Mae llwybr arall i Lyn Conwy, trac cerbydau o Llyn Cottage ar ffordd Ysbyty Ffestiniog. Mae'r daith hon yn llawer haws, ond yn llai boddhaol na'r llwybr o Hafod-y-Rhedwydd.

I recommend you to begin the walk at Hafod-y-Rhedwydd, the former gamekeepers' cottage on the right at the top of the steepest ascent on the road to Ffestiniog. There is parking for about 3 cars near the wall opposite the house. The hardy may choose to walk all the way from Cwm. The National Trust pointer along the wall is misleading. Ignore it and go down the hill a few yards to a farmer's track leading up into the pasture. The sunken track is a bit rough and wet in places, but you are now on the route indicated on the Ordnance Survey map. The track fords one small stream, but when you come to another, clamber off the track to follow the stream along a raised bank towards the fence at the top of the field. Sorry I can't be more precise we shall have to see what some yellow paint will do. Once you reach the fence there is a step-over stile, but don't use it. Cross the stream and go uphill along the fence for about 100 yards. There is normally a rag or paper tied to the fence to show you where you should cross. It is important to find the right spot to locate an old gamekeeper fishermen grouse-shooters' path through the heather. A little care is needed to keep to the narrow path, but it improves as you go, and over a shallow rise you can suddenly see the lake. Continue round the lake over one distinctly wet bit to the boat-house, very much ruined. You may notice there is no major stream flowing into the lake and in fact, most of the water comes from springs underneath. There is the tale of the gamekeeper getting his own back on ungenerous clients by taking them to fish where the spring water emerged cold spots where there were no fish. Llyn Conwy supplies water to Penmachno, Cwm, and much of the surrounding area. From the boathouse it is a short hop to the top of Pen-y-Bedw for views over the valley. It is advisable to keep to the recently repaired wall for most of the way to avoid deep heather, although you may choose to come straight down when you have gravity on your side. Allow a half hour for this extra journey. The circuit of the lake for the interested, involves ups and downs, ins and outs, and some bog-hopping, and should take an hour plus. Another route to Llyn Conwy is provided vehicular track from Llyn Cottage on the Ysbyty Ffestiniog road. This walk is much easier, but less satisfying than the path from Hafod-y-Rhedwydd.
